Before becoming a tourist destination, the island of Molokai was used for vastly different reasons: first as a transplant home for the native Hawaiian people in 1865 and 1895 and second as the forced home to lepers and other sick people. In 1980 the area was made into a historic site to remember the travesty that this beautiful island played a part in. Historic landmarks found inside include the Molokai Light and the Kalaupapa Leprosy Settlement. Visitors can only access the park with authorized tour groups, such as Damien Tours and Molokai Mule Ride. Address: Kalae Hwy (Hwy 470) Kalaupapa HI USA 96742
